    Hey guys

I just fitted a Little Bertha 14.5 gal pump to my blown small block for the first time. Fired first go on the primer fuel but then died. Many times the same. Is it possible to have the direction of rotation wrong like the Enderle pumps?

    Regards PC

There are forward and reverse rotation pumps-- how is yours mounted ? Are you experienced at starting a blown engine with a primer bottle ?

Its mounted in an Enderle dual drive with a 44 Mag. Both CW rotation.
Yes we have run for years with no problems.

How can you tell the correct rotation? Can you change it easily?

It" running the wrong rotation with the dual drive you can put the pump direct on the camdrive , but i assume you have an underdrive @ the dual drive gearbox so you have to make an extra bypass if the pump is too big for the direct drive.
I don"t think you can change the drive rotation on a Watermanpump like an Enderle pump.

The gear pumps cannot be switched over ------ can you get the motor to run while priming it with a bottle for a extended period ????

Another thing that will act like this is the butterflies are set too tight and they suck shut as the motor tries to rise in rpm ----

Have you double checked your fuel shut off to make sure it's correct ? What pump did you have on there before this ? The pump is facing forward, correct ?

Even if you had the wrong rotation pump installed it would start --- ask me how I know :)

I just switched directions on my Waterman Nostalgia pump. You have to move the drive axes to the other side. Just make sure you get the inlet and outlet sides correct, it will make a difference in performance of pump.

as weird as it may seem also check the hex drive inside the pump extension, i witnessed a local guy chase a no start problem only to find out the pump wasnt even turing due to a broken shaft.

Turns out the pump was wrong direction, but a quick re-assembly of the body, inlet and outlet and away we went.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Do you guys ever worry about the pump cavitation when you are re assembling a fuel pump ? Maybe it's just me but racing in a pump limited class you would have the pump flowed after any changes to it .
