Looking to switch to a dry sump deal on our billet brad 6, already have the pan and P&P 2 stage pump. A promod friend of mine says 8-9 quart tank is plenty. Seems low after running 15-16 qts on our wet sump system. 8-9 quarts enough? Don't really have room to put a 18 qt tank up front.

    Flyboy,
I would suggest you friend is talking about a TRUE dry sump system, not a remote oil tank. Or else he has never had a P&P pump with 8 quarts in a BAE motor and run it other than on the jack stands, even then it would be marginal.

The thing with 8 quarts will not go to 100 feet and the rods will be out, or a black crank at best.

It needs 18 to 20 quarts at least for a 1/4 mile run.

Care to take a wager on it ????

minimum I got by with was 16 qts, 12 in the tank
That pump does not return very well like said above, most times you have to drain the pan and return it to the tank every pass

    tank

    Josh,
I have a fabricated Jeffers oil tank from my car when it was used for 1/4 mile. I think it was run with 15-18 qts and has a heating element on the side.

    125.00

    Thanks
    Mike

I wouldn't even start my motor with 8-10 quarts. When you make a pass all the oil stays in the valve covers. It's doesnt really drain back until the motor turns off. At 15-16 witha mcamis tank and system one pump. When I do a burnout and stop the oil psi goes to 0 for a sec. If I have 18 in it. It never moves from 150. The pump is way too big for the motor and the return can't keep up. That's why you need all that oil.

Thanks for replies guys. Problem is I just don't think we have room for a 18 qt tank. Might have to stick w/ the wet deal. Can you use an oil accumulator on a dry sump system for protection?

Mike, is your tank round or square?

I run an external belt driven pump on my TAD, external tank, and funny car pan. I run about 8qts and could get away with a bit less. Having the heads lightened and the block drilled for the six extra returns will certainly help.
