always seems to feel a little grind when putting the lenco into forward.. been told this is normal. yes, it has caused problems.... is there a fix for this that im unaware of? 200 lbs air going to it, and I have tried hitting the button a couple times to see if that helps but no difference....

    Tickle the button
Set timing retard to engage when brake is applied so it will idle down low
set idle as low as possible
make sure you release the regular brakes. The drivetrain must be relaxed
if you have the slider and ring in the reverser all banged up it will be tough to engage
be patient. We've never had a problem but my driver takes his time and uses some finesse.
the reverser planetary will explode if it ever sees any load...i think its rated for 400ft lbs

I was having the same issue, but I found several problems with my unit and it is now working correctly.

1-were do you have the front valve adjusted? this can control how hard the band apply's
2-I run 250 psi of co2 for the trans brake, i think 200 is a little low
3-what oil are you running in it?
4-how many runs do you have on the band?

    Bruce,

Id have the regulator set to 250psi and make sure that the band is adjusted correctly. If the band isnt stopping the drum correctly when your on the button, its going to make it a pain to get in and out of gear smoothly.
Also make sure the pins in the reverser are not worn badly.
We fought issues with having the car come out of gear on the launch. Most of it turned out to be improperly adjusted detent on the reverser arm and tore up pins. Also had all of our reverser gears hard coated to give them some more strenght and longevity.
Ever since we went to the hard coat, gears literally look BRAND NEW after 25+ runs on each tranny.

If the car is stopped and you're on the brake button there shouldn't be anything moving to cause a grind (unless, as others have stated, you actually do have a brake problem). Are you giving it a second to stop the input before you start moving the lever? The only time I ever feel any grind is when I have to tickle the button a little to get it to slide into gear (forward or reverse) when it gets a little bound up.

    Bruce,

The mobil one oil can not take the heat that the bruno puts out, I have tried every kind of oil out there and the ONLY one that holds up is the LAT pro ATF, when i ran the mobil one i would see about 225 degrees on the converter when I warmed up the motor, now I may see 145, and it would be well over 300 degrees after a pass, I also noticed that the trans brake did not hold as good when I used the mobil one as it does with the LAT pro ATF.

Valve adjustment, you have 2 valves that work together to apply the trans brake, and release it, The valve in the back (closest to the lenco) were the co2 supply line is connected, and then the front valve on the other side of the trans brake piston (closest to the flywheel) if you look at that front valve it has a lock nut were it screws into the valve manifold, If you have a email address i can send you a doc that walks you through the adjustment, It is pretty easy and it make a big differenace!!!!!

And I agree with Jayson you should never run under 250 PSI on the co2 to the trans brake.

Hay jason were did you get the rev slider harden at ??? that sounds like a real good idea!!!

One more note, when the trans brake is working correctly it is violent that way it applys and stops the trans from turning so fast you should not have to wait for it at all.

We've run the Red Line Oil Lightweight ATF since we changed to the Bruno.
Never had heat issues, consistency issues or anything.
We put 8-10 runs on fluid as well. And even then, the fluid seems like it could keep going.

I've heard good things about the LAT ATF as well. I just don't have any 1st hand experience with it.

I've seen a lot of racers out here have crazy heat issues and even a really bad pressure reading.

Our stuff never gets excessively hot, and to be honest, pressure wise, it's about as rock solid as I've ever seen. Never been modified or anything. Maybe we just got lucky?

Bruce i'm curious if this "grind" only happens after start up in neutral and putting lenco in gear? Does it do it after the burnout and putting it into reverse? That slider in the reverser is spinning pretty fast in neutral. If raising the pressure on the Bruno would fix it, then you should be blowing through the lights when you're staging the car too. Contrary to the previous posts, we run regular atf (non synthetic) and 200 lbs. However I think every Bruno has its own animals. They all have bugs to be worked out it seems. Good luck

yes, it only seems to do it going from neutral to forward. It's never tried to creep or pull through the lights . just going into forward after being in neutral

    Lat oil

Butch, where does one get some of this LAT oil?
Never heard of it, but it sounds like it will help my Bruno / Coan heat issues too.
We run Penzoil ATF, and it gets so hot after a 6.30 run, I just change it out between runs, which of course doesn't help the hot oil in the converter.

    Lat oils

Clif, try 888 528 6457 or you can goggle (LAT oils) they are in the L.A. area, you want the pro ATF, its about 75.00 a gallon and we have been running the same oil all season and seems to be holding up very well. we also made a oil psi change, and a converter change, now the aft does not get over 250 degrees on a 6.0x pass,

I hope it helps and good luck

    slider gear

removed the female slider gear, annealed it, filed a better lead on the edges of the splines, had it reheat treated, perfect as now.
