Has anyone used the msd dynaforce starter motor? im running a 526 in chevy with a promag 44. ive been running a csr pro platinum starter on 24v but am considering going to the msd since it appears to have more cranking power. trying to figure out whats the best starter to go with without necesarily going with a meziere.

are you running csr'2 24 volt starter? or running 24volts through their 12v starter? I run a 526 BBC and the 24v CSR starter spins that thing over so fast i couldn't imagine any thing else doing a better job.

I just fired my 540 the other day, used a power master starter, hit it with 24volts. It melted in about 6 seconds.

Called Tony @ GPE starters and he guarenteed his severe duty starter would be all I need and it can take 24 volts all day long. $330 bucks. Very good price and a personal guarentee that it wouldn't cook or my money back.

I learned that lesson the hard way.

    My 2 cents

no smart switch just 24v to the starter and pulling 12v off one battery for accessories. if i were to use a smart switch it wouldn't be 700, Wilson makes a series/parallel switch for 100 bucks and does the same thing.

we used a GPE starter for years, still have it for a spare. only took it off to try something with a little better ratio....a CVR, which i got from Jegs for 200 bucks. they are both 12v and we put 24v to the solenoid. these are the only 2 starters we have owned in the last 15 years. you don't need relays/switches, etc. i would just choose one with a better ratio and put 24v to it and go. i think sometimes people run the starter too long before the car fires. maybe that is why we have had such good luck with the cheaper/simpler units.
I run a primer pump on my car that fills all the lines in the motor. the motor spins maybe 3-4 sec, I flip the switch and away we go. hope this helps

The armature looked like it had 1000 starts on it. Brand new starter, actually knocked one commutator bar right off the armature. Just a very cheap quality starter. Just not the correct one for the application.
