    Mac,
I think you have selected an excellent combo with your new 549 BBC. Please tell us what pump you are planning on running and what is the dome volume of your pistons?

From my calculations it appears that you will be at zero deck height. Therefore, your gasket thickness will set your piston-to-head clearance. I like to run around .080 piston-to-head clearance with aluminum rods.

    Good luck, Joe

    Enderle 110 pump

The piston specs for is as follows
    dome piston
Piston to deck will be .015"
    Effective volume -31.4cc
    .050 gasket
    Gasket bore 4.560"
    Gasket volume 13.4cc
    11.5:1

That would only give me .065" piston to head with the .050" gasket so I was planning on running a .062" gaskets to gain some room but will loose a little compression.

Mac, I stand corrected on the deck height; your right. Make sure you measure the block deck height. You don't need the gas ported pistons with your dykes top ring. The 990 pump should give you 2000 hp easily. I believe you have a very good combo.

Let us know how it performs. Joe

    chevy

It will run hard. Make sure the oil system is sorted out.
    How much OD boost?
IMO 30 psi will make 2000hp.

I'm thinking 40-45% overdrive should make 30 psi

I hope I have everything sorted out in the oil system... Moroso billet pump set around 110-120 psi,Billet fab oil pan, cleaned up block allot in lifter valley for drain back. I'm going to have oil drain hoses from head to the oil pan. 3 quart Moroso accumulator, 70wt Brad Penn.
    Any ideas?

    Mac,

I am by no means a expert on this but, I have a similar set up.

582 BBC with a loose SSI 14/71 at 10% over.
    We make about 25lbs boost.

The 990 pump is one size too big.

We run 20-50 Brad Penn and around 70 PSI oil pressure and no bearing broblems.

i hope its a high helix. It should make way more air than that.
I always ran 20/50 penn oil for better drainback and switched to 60wt redline with very good results. 80 psi at the stripe.
990 is a big pump but it should have a pump sizer loop to keep everything correct.

Yes its a high helix retro. I might be a little high on what overdrive I need. The blower made 35psi on my 470" BBC @ 28% over. I just thought with the extra 80" and bigger heads it might take alot more overdrive.

How much oil did you run? I have low ground clearance so my pan size is limited. With my 470" setup I ran 10 quarts in the motor and a 3quart Moroso accumulator and have had ZERO bearing problems in 5 seasons but just want to confirm everything with the new motor.

Its a 110 pump with a loop on it currently setup for my 470" combo but I wil have Davenport give it a once over for the 549" setup. Once everything is togther I will book Les Davenport for the day on the dyno like I did with my last motor to get the bugs out.
