f/c steering box

Does anyone know what the difference is between the strange and flaming river steering boxes. Does either fit as a direct replacement for an SPE box?

I may not be up on the price difference today, but the last price I saw for F.R. was $750.00, todays Strange price is $524.50.
Yes, the mount for cover side of box is the same.
Strange has added a output side two bolt mount, which is something that has been needed (in my opinion).
Strange also offers a 13- 14- and 15" output shaft.

Bryan, the Strange box is absolutely NOT a direct bolt on replacement for the SPE box. No idea about the overpriced F.R. box.

 

I figured nothing would bolt up but i was wondering if there was something a lot better with the flaming river unit since it costs a lot more

 

Newbie here, 1st post so I hope I'm doing this correctly.

I was tempted to go with Flaming River as they are local. I saw the price and held off because of the $$$ and I am wanting something "nostalgic" . I talked to a Flaming River employee and if I were you I'd check with Flaming River directly.

Word is they were going to do a price drop. Don't know if it has happened yet or not.

 

I talked to them, and the price is about 600, but the pitman arm is 80, shaft coupler 40, and mounting bracket 30, or 750ish total. S&w has the whole strange package for about 500. They said the flaming river box was serviceable, but it's not very often that needs to be serviced, so Strange it is for me

 

You'll be happy with a Strange unit.

 

Stilleto still makes boxes also. Not sure of the current price.
