Static compression

    Im wondering what the relationship between static compression and blower boost is. If my screw blower is down on performance but I run fairly high compression , will my boost seem artificially high? If I buy a new screw blower can I lower my static compression and expect performance results?

    I am by no means an expert!!!!

    This is how boost has been explained to me. Boost is a measurement of restriction. Simply put, for the same blower, the same overdrive, and better set of heads will produce less boost then a less flowing head. So, having a higher compression piston, shouldn't effect your boost measurement. A diesel guy put better heads on his engine, and was upset that is boost number actually decreased, however he was developing more power. Once I thought about it, it made sense to me...... I would love to hear what other people think of this theory.

    If he was to change the camshaft, the boost reading would change again. Back to the original question, if you don't have enough blower (regardless of make/model) you have to look for HP in other areas by increasing the efficiency of the engine. Raising compression is one way to do that. If you are looking for more dynamic compression, you can also change your valve events to make the engine 'think' that it has more compression.
