You should also ask which charger to use.

I use 3-- Maxx 1000 from Wal-Mart and haven't had any problems. They last about 3 years. They are big and heavy, but do the job. JW

    forgot to mention:
i m in france, with 220v being the electrical standard,in case that would be important for the charger.
but i found the enersys are available here so charging them should not be a problem, right?

i m also facing another problem:
my car is a funny car with an automatic transmission,so i m required to use a neutral safety switch with the blower mount starter.
there is one provided with the shifter(TCI outlaw, looks like a hurst quarterstick) but i m not sure it will handle the batteries power output for the starter:what do you think?

The 36 volts will olny power the starter....you'll need a small 12 volt on board to power all of your electronics. Some racers .....in an effort to save weight, use 12 volt drill batteries, otherwise just get the smallest regular 12 volt you can find.

    batteries

Since I build a majority of the battery packs for most of the big NHRA teams I would strongly suggest NOT to use 36 volts with the RCD starter. I would also suggest NOT to use the Genesis, or for that matter, ANY 13 amp hour battery. It just isn't enough.

If you have any questions on battery packs or applications please feel free to give me a call or e-mail me. We have two different models of battery packs available.

    Hope this helps,

    Why not on 36 volts?
But i use 3 full size group 27 car batteries
I have never had a problem even with the screw blower @ 92%
I am using a crank trigger and no crossover ???
pack is heavy but if a battery goes bad run to any auto parts store

Granted i would love to have one of your small light weight packs

the only electronics i ll need an onboard 12V battery for are an oil pressure warning light and a shift light with the modules to plug it to a "Spud Miller" 4(a Super Mag 3 on steroids:eek:)
i m also using a moroso mechanical tach.
regarding the batteries for my "new" used starter, here is the whole story:
i purchased one from a racer years ago that he used with 2 truck batteries(48 volts).the starter itself weights 50 pounds.it looks like an old C&A starter.
so i was advised recently to invest in something "newer"(=lighter) so i found this used RCD that weighs 37 pounds and is supposed to run on either 36 or 48 volts.
the engine it is for is a 413 cui wedge mopar (10.75 CR) with an 8.71 HH blower and alky mechanical injection(estimated 850-900 hp).
so any ideas on the "right" batteries to start it?(not too far from france...);)

To answer your safety switch question. You don't run starter current through the shifter switch only the solenoid. You will need to run the toggle switch on the starter in series with the safety switch. This will require a plug to connect them mounted somewhere handy like on the. Blower.
