I currently have an 8973 in the car and I need to replace it. Trying to get some feedback on the new grid to see if that is a better replacement. Car is a blown 505 Mustang with a 44 mag.

I'm in love with it.. If you can run an 8973, the power grid seems simple to setup in comparison. Has all the functionality with a more like the Digital 7 interface. And just like the 8973, you can run it as simple or as complicated as you like and I really like the added data logger, comes in handy for those "The shift light didn't come on!" arguments. The only thing I will caution is that if you run Davenport's Jetsize, close it before you hook up to the box.. It runs SLOOOOOOW with Jetsize open on our 1 year old fairly powerful laptop.

i have also used the 8973 and the power grid and in my oppinion the power grid blows away the 8973. the power grid is half the price and it uses a usb adapter instead of the old com port style. one of the things i like about the power grid is that the usb connector powers up the power grid and you can download your runs or change the settings without turning on the power to the car. plus you can look at the data logger and see that what you programmed is happening the way you want it to. with the 8973 you just have to take it for granted that the timing is being pulled and put back the way you think it was programmed to do. i had my cam sync wire come loose with the power grid and was able to see that it was not working in the data logger if i had been using the 8973 it probably would have taken a whole lot longer to notice that it wasn't working since it doesn't log data.

have the 7730 ready to install. have done "bench runs" using the 8993 Top Fuel Tester to simulate iginition. The box does have some great features. We hope to have the car together for the Noble Oklahoma Race next week. Will learn a lot I believe.

Listen to JustinAce. He has some great info on the box.

I was thinking of ordering one of these instead of a 6 Shooter with Leheay timer. I want to keep it simple this might be the way to go.

It's as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. We're not messing with individual cylinder timing or RPM or gear timing, just running it like a six shooter. I really like how it controls the shift light like the 8973.. Where it's really come in handy is there have been a couple times where the Racepak switch got kicked swapping drivers on the big end, well then all we get is a slow driveshaft and EGT's cooling.. The data logging function at least let us see what the Engine RPM was doing the entire pass.
