    Battery

I'm going with the same idea you are and using a small lithium ion power tool battery to run stuff. The battery you can get at any Makita or tool repair shop near you but the holder is another story. If you get a switch from a cordless tool you can harvest the battery terminal for power leads but you will have to fab up something to hold the battery snug.

    Hope that all made sense

    Battery

Your best bet is probably to buy a small 5 or 7 aH (amp hour) battery designed for a domestic alarm system. These are rectangular with standard spade terminals. Easy to mount, easy to connect to and CHEAP. Cheers Graham

    great idea

I run a pulling tractor and have a twin engine that only needs juice for the MSD 6AL..... I called MSD and they said it won't run enough amps..... I'm not sure what your application was going to be, but I applaud the idea. the 6AL requires 1 amp/1000 rpms, and the makita 18V only will supply 2.4 amps.

Not sure what the OP's application is but in our deal we just have to run the datalogger, taillights and the mag kill solinoid. No sense in carrying the extra weight of a battery when you don't have to. The little cordless tool batts fit the bill perfectly IMO

We have a place called Batteries Plus here that has a good variety of battery types and sizes. They may have a store in your area. They stock a 12v 2.2Ah battery we use in our Data logger.

    battery

You can get them at any RadioShack for less than 40 bucks. Go in and tell them you need a house alarm battery they have many to choose from as far as Amps etc.

I also us an alarm system battery.
    Nothing to leak out.
    Light weight.
Is really 12 volts like all the stuff on the car is supposed to use.
    Connections are easy.
Easy and fast to charge with a 1 amp motorcycle charger.
They last for years and I have never had any problems.

How often do you need to charge the alarm batteries, after each meeting?

    charging alarm battery

Hi all, it really depends on how much power you are consuming and the capacity of your charger. If you used say a 7aH battery and ran it flat, you could charge it within 1 hour with a 10amp charger. If you used the 1amp charger mentioned above it would take 7 -8hours. It is wise to charge them after use as you might get caught short. You could check them using a voltmeter (as an indication) and it should read approx 12.5 - 12.7v if its charged OK. Cheers
