Ring Gap

    Ok, Question just freshing my Hemi 4.375 bore
    Just brought new rings Akerly & Childs Xtreme
    What gap do I run ?
    Top?
    2nd?
    Oil?

    From Akerly & Childs on the Extreme rings the start off recommended gap is .007" times your bore for both the top and the 2nd ring. The oil's are .016".

    We run those in our BAE motor and gap them at .036 on top and .045 on second. The oil rings just make sure you have at least .015 and you'll be fine.

    Does running the larger second ring gap help with ring stability and better oil control like the directions say?

    Yes correct, you can gap them tighter if you'd like but in our app. for instance -
    Akerly & Childs calls for .007 x bore - as Mike stated; which = .031; I believe that is too tight and from .031 - .036 you're not going to lose a thing power wise. You can gap them at .007 x bore size if you'd like, just make sure when you pull the rack out you check and make sure they're not butting.
