I have a BAE 521 VI. We are running Ti valves , how long before you would re-new them ?

    Thanks Wayne

I figured an engine builder would chime in on this one...I pitch them when the margin gets thin from grinding or the keeper grooves get slop in them....I use the radial groove keepers and after good advice from Noel Manton on proper valve spring pressure, the grooves are not getting beat up much....but if they do wiggle a little I pitch the valve and keeper....have not had a valve train related issue since I switched over to Hemi in 2005....but we are only turning 8000-8500 range....

We put new valves in at 60-65 runs. As Scott said, keeping an eye on the keeper grooves is very important. You can get a valve concentricity gauge from Goodson and measure runout at several different points, I believe the backside of the head is the best/as good as any place to measure it. I'd also keep a close eye on seat depth and overall chamber volume...not directly related to valve life expectancy but in the same realm and an important semi-related "thing" nonetheless.....

as long as you check the keeper grooves regulary with the amount of laps we do a year you probably have 2 years minimun life span on them but that keeper groove and the fit of the locks MUST be checked

I was around 325 lbs on the seat and trashing the grooves....and was scared to go much higher on my hemi due to valve train problems on the BBC that I ran previously....I gradually increased the seat pressure to around 400 (new Comp Cams 26082 spring @ 2.00") and they settle in around 375 lbs...found out that the hemi can take a bunch more spring pressure without killing valve train parts....Noel suggests more than I run....but only turning 8000-8500 range they are working fine...
