We lost a valve this last weekend on our KB Hemi. The head of the valve broke off and was beat in the head and knocked a hole in the piston. My question is this, can you trust the rod or should it be changed out. They have about 10 passes on them. There a set of BME rods. There is some small marks on the small end. They are slight scuffs not scraps, or dents. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

I would put a new one in there. If it breaks you will really be fixing things. Don

Take a set of dial calipers and use the backside, put it inside the small end of the rod, hold pressure on the calipers, and have someone turn the rod; make sure it didn't egg the small end. Also check the wrist pin as this would be a good indicator, if the pin is bent too bad I'd change the rod regardless of what the calipers show on the small end. A rod is about $100, ask me in a week what it costs from BAE to fix a block when one lets go and takes 3 more with it:cool: I will say the new crank, rods, pistons, pins, buttons, rings, head repair, cam, lifters, valves, oil pan, alochol, and psychiatrist...was more than the $100 so I'm already behind the 8-ball. In regards to ordering new rods, give Ken @ Motorsports Unlimited a jingle. He's a BME dealer and will get you setup at a great price....plus he supports this site and delivers parts to national events...not many guys are out there for the racers like that.
