This is true all of his material is from China, and He is "PROUD" of it! He told me once when I questioned him about it "it is what Americans want, and he has no problem sleeping at night". This coming from an old time flyboy is quite upsetting, I once had allot of respect for him. I will use only U.S. and or German (very high quality). Even some China material is coming in through the "back door" in U.S. material by using Chinese "melt" to manufacture the material. Specifically "Webco", the only way to know where it is from is to get the certification paperwork. Quite scary considering this material is supposed to meet "Military Specs". It is "very inferior"!

    4130 tube

Gene; Kurt is correct on Dillsberg being from China, but just like U.S. tube, you have to be on top of what you are receiving. If you remember Summerill Tube, made in good 'ol PA., it was the worst 4130 I ever used, hard spots, skid marks, pinholes and all.
Probably the best I've ever used was Benteler Tube, made in Germany. The story as I heard it is, they make their own steel ingot, draw it in U.S. sizes and sent it. They also sell ingot to tube mills such as Webco and Plymouth. Webco got in trouble for running there ingot into tubing and lettering "made in USA". Story was, the tubing was made here, but not the steel. You will now see some batches of Plymouth with the lettering "Made for PLY TUBE - Benteler/ Germany", meaning the tube was drawn here with steel from Germany, but the heat treat is typical U.S. "it is what it is today" consistancy. (this is what caused the "heat treat" fiasco)
Moral of the story is, read your certs, but test it yourself!!!
From what I gather, there is four different steel mills in China producing 4130, one is excellent, two are medium, one is dogshit. Now, it might soon be produced in INDIA!

Keep in mind that I've been "invalidated" with SFI due to my stand on the heat treat fiasco, (you know how that turned out).
I'm more worried about welding rod than tubing nowadays, thanks to the internet forum "experts" telling each other to use stainless rod on 4130, with no clue how dangerous it is!
Kurt; if you ever want to BS, call me.

You also have to watch as some of the tube coming out of Germany is "SR" not "N". I have had more than one supplier try and convince me that they are the same thing.

people buy price quality sometimes both

keep in mind some people buy only on price, as long as that is, there will be cheap tubing out there. Some people will buy only on quality and price does not matter. most successful people do their homework and buy the best quality at the best price.
