i fix carbon and fiberglass race bodies all the time. . .the best is the "west system" . most boat places sell it. . .but I have used SMC repair resin from Evercoat a lot and NEVER had a failed repair. you can get it at any auto body paint supply dealer.

fiberglast.com has every thing you would need for carbon fiber repair and the correct resins for carbon fiber . fiberglass resins will work for a quick fix but you can have problems in the long run all roush stuff is carbonfiber

    Bruce, Jim,

Is there a shelf life for the West System stuff? I bought some West 105 Epoxy Resin and West 205 Hardener that has been sitting new in the can unopened for probably 4-5 years. Can I still use it? Haven't tried it yet, but will need to use it soon. I suppose I could try it and see, but thought I'd ask the experts...

    Thanks.

    James

to be safe, mix a small batch and make a test patch. .make sure you use a small piece of cloth also and see if it dries in the proper time.

just a little warning : a little after you mix the two parts of the West System together, the chemical reaction will almost get hot enough to catch fire and the container you mix it in can burn you ! ;)
and it has a very short window of workability if your brushing it on.

Use the 206 hardener and smaller batches and you wont have that problem, or if you are using the 205 poor it into a paint tray, the more surface area, the slower it heats up and sets
