I am after some information regarding the use of titanium for wheelie bars.

    Are they designed differently?

    What grade?

Just curious as we can get hold of material.

All of the pro stock cars and trucks really treid with the ti wheelie bars. The memory of a titanium tubing is rediculous. Once the bar starts to bend in one direction it will always return to it. So their wheelie bar design started to double the thickness. And when they finially figured the thickness out, it was as heavy as 4130. The conpression side of the bars went back, and the pull side of the bars was O.K. with Ti, as the bending memory was not in play.
As for TAD and TAFC stuff, you just have to over-brace to keep the memory from being a factor and trying to steer the car. And remember, 4130 on the compression side is not a bad thing.

Ti bars are known for cracking, many of the Top Fuel teams use them however = deep pockets! If I was going to have an ultra lightweight bar setup and spend the money once...I'd have Bickel do a set of carbon fiber bars. They're substantially lighter than the thinnest wall ti and exponentially stronger.

Memory wise its not going to come close to 4130, but just wondered if it was worth looking into. Having had a read about I think it might be something to leave for now.

So could a set be designed with both materials used? IE 4130 on compression side?

    bars

I changed my top bars to chrome moly 1 3/8. The titanium looked like mangled wire!

    Yes.
That is a good way to do it.

A TAFC usually works the hell out of a single wheel wheelie bar.

If you have a flexible traditional rear end mount bar, it won't last.

If you have a rigid tree-mount/fuel car style bar, it won't last because it's too brittle and will eventually crack.

Put the Ti somewhere else in the car it will last.
