Hi guys and girls, another chassis update question for you all.

Before 2010 we updated our rear motor plate tabs, but found they weren't strong enough and are causing us trouble (ie breaking). Can any of you chassis guys tell me where I can source some thicker gauge Chro-moly bent motor plate tabs? The current tabs we bought were probably only about .118" thick, and could do with being thicker gauge.

Their breaking might not have been helped by the fact we ran solid front motor mounts, but we are now running floating saddles, but either way we want to update the motors for added security.

    Thanks everyone

There are several ways of strengthening those standard 4130 bent tabs. None are available "over the counter" in thicker material with bent ears. Normally strengthening the tab is sufficient (there are several ways of doing this), floating the front has no bearing on the tab breaking. The tab or plate itself breaking is normally an indication of another problem.

    Motor plate tabs

I have used some bent chrome moly motor tabs from The Chassis Shop . Tab #C73-201 and I added a second 1/8" plate to the face of it to make the tab thicker. Their motor tabs come in single bend and double bend. I have not broken any so far. I think there website is http://secure.chassisshop.com
    Hope this helps.

We have keystock welded about .190 (3/16) away from our front motor saddles so when it shakes the engine can only rotate them so far. Motor plates and Mounts do not break anymore. I think the sprags like it too!

Do you run engine limiters to keep the engine from moving front to back on acceleration and when you pull the chutes? I put the limiters on and quit breaking mid plate mounts.

It does sound like your engine/trans is moving front to back causing the damage .
