Opinions on solid mount rear or 4 link?

Now that I have the Mag setup figured out this is next.
I have a moly tube chassis Mustang that weights 2350 with a blown 540 BBC engine and tranny. Trying to figure if I should go solid mount or not. The 4-link bar length is less than 13 inches so would it even be worth messing with?
The total wheel base is 119” with the engine sitting back 5 inches from original position for better weight transfer. The car has not been scaled tire to tire yet, want to know what would be best and less head ache.

 

I tried both on one of my cars,and I found that the solid mount bounced me all over the track.. The 4 link can be tricky to get it right,but once you do thats the set up..

 

would the length make a differnce. They are so short it dont seem like it would they would do the job

i think the length might matter in the settting it up, but as said before, once set up, you'll be happier. It will save your kidneys...

 

Well, for starters, it's illegal. All stock body cars must have full automotive suspension. Rigid mount suspension is prohibited. Section 4a, page 4 of the National Hokey Rules Association rule book.

 

would that be for safety reason or evening out the playing field from a competition stand point?

 

I would say safety. I tried this a long time ago on my '69 nova. It was so bad for bouncing that I did not even attempt to race it. keep in mind.... if solid was good, the pro-stock and pro-mod guys would be lobbying for it.

 

My car was a 60 chevy,forgot the wheelbase,but if thats not as long as you can get with a door car?? And yes its not legal to have a solid mount rear in a door car. We tryed it because we know nothing about suspinsion's on a car with 2000 hp. Its not safe!!! They were gonna throw me off the track because they were concerned I was gonna crash it..

If i remember correctly, Jim oddys black mariah corvette from the late 80s was rumoured to have a solid mounted rear end. But if that was true, i would think that the car was built to act more or less like a funnycar with doors.

 

i'd look at it this way, even though the bars are not a preferred length, its a tuning device , and if you go solid, you loose that device.. after seein those fast 10.5w cars, i feel a 4 link is an amazing tool to have...... BUT, SCALE IT for your base line !!!just my 2 cents...... Mike
