    Hi Guys,
I had a strange thing happen to me that has NEVER happened before.
I bought a new set of 2055's right off the Hoosier truck.
I mounted them (beadlocks), checked the roll out at 7 pounds, both tires were 110 and 3/4.

The tires worked great, car ran good. At 14 runs the car started driving left. Over the last 3 races (about 8 more runs) the car still pulled left. I checked everything on the car to make sure there were no broken tubes, etc. This last weekend (last race for us) the car was still going left. I was at my wits end when I FINALLY decided to check the roll out again. (since I checked everything else) At 5 3/4 pounds one tire was 110 and 1/2 the other was 111 and 3/8.

    Is this normal for Hoosiers?
This was my first time running them.
This is on a top dragster if it matters.
Is that all I can expect out of them (10-12 runs)?

I REALLY like the tire BUT if I can only get a couple races out of them I may have to go to another tire.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks
    Frank

Hi Frank Most of the Alky guy only get around 15 then they get a new set. I am sure alot of people will disagree, But talk to the TAFC guy's. I heard that many years ago. they go away fast. I didn see what your times were, but my goodyears went .958 60ft.
Talk to you soon. See you in the spring Don

We went through much the same deal earlier this year with the Hoosiers. Ever time they went through a heat cool cycle the the role out would change a bunch. It got to where we were checking them ever run and they were changing ever run. Finally gave up and took them off the car. They even changed in mounted in the trailer during the 100degree summer.

Call Carl Robinson at Mickey Thompson and give them a try, I am sure you will like them.
No change after 19 runs on AA/FA.

You know, this actually helps me with going to explaining my cars behaviour since about mid season.

We had a fresh set of Hoosiers in 2009, put about 15 passes on them up to May this year (not many full runs due to engine problems). Then in June, first run the car only wanted to go left and the car clipped the wall (only took out the headers luckily!). It's been pulling left ever since!

Perhaps it's time to try a new tyre. I quite like Rattlers idea by trying M/T's.

Hope you get your car steering straight Frank, good luck with it :)

    Hoosiers

I have run Hoosiers on a TAFC for years. We try to change tires every 12-15 runs. After 6 runs on a new set of Hoosiers we started having some handling problems. The runout originally had been right on between left and right. We noticed they were off 3/4" of an inch. We overfilled the smaller one to try to stretch it to the big one. After several tries of screwing around with the tires the mismatch was getting bigger. Eventually the bigger tire ended up 1 1/2" bigger. I gave up and put Goodyears on the car. I haven't ever had that problem before with Hoosiers. It was like the tire was stretching or coming apart internally. Nothing else explains the situation. Dave Germain

    OK, so I'm not dreaming.

    Thanks for the input guys.
    I may try the MT's.
If I do, which ones, I notice they have 2 34.5's?

    Thanks again,
    Frank

    No problems

I switched to Hoosiers in 2000 and have had excellent service out of them. For the last 3 years or so, we've started leaving our Hoosiers on for 20 to 28 runs, and we've not had any problems with the tires growing or shrinking. I don't believe they would just decide to grow for absolutely no reason. I would look into it alittle farther, or call you Hoosier rep and give him a chance to try and answer your problem.

    Good luck,
    Marty

PS. 90% of the blown alcohol cars run Hoosiers for some very good reasons.

Had this asymmetrical growth problem last year after running the Topeka Div., then started showing at Indy last year on a TAFC I was helping out. They were out almost 2" from each other after 4 passes. Brought them to Hoosier tent at the track, they replaced them after verifying what we saw, hasn't been an issue since. They are pretty good about making things right, give them the chance to do so.

Jody, I have it just the opposite. I tried to call MT to make sure but they are closed for the day. I'll try again tomorrow (if I can remember that long).

The 3186 has a stiff side wall and the 3187 has a soft side wall.

Just got off the phone with M/T. Here's the scoop:

    3186 = M5 compound (softer)= converter car.
    3187 = M7 compound (harder)= clutch car.

The tech said the only difference is the more aggressive compound in the 3186.

Butch, go to Hoosier's website, www.hoosiertire.com and follow the drag racing links to distribution. They should have contact info for the rep closest to you, or you can e-mail the product managers directly with your problems.
