This is an important area. We need people who can recommend shops across the country for good repairs. I just found one in New York who just did my Velasco crank. It is The Crank Shop 1-845-457-9139 ask for Fred Anyone else?

X2 on Marine Crank. They welded and chromed my billet crank last year. Did an awesome job. Just make sure you tell them exactly what journal diameters you want to end up with. If you say blower motor they will give you a little more clearance on all the journals.

    Crank Repairs

From the time I shipped it and back to my door it was 3 weeks. I am from Canada so I think the extra time was it sitting in customs and the rest of the shipping BS.

Unless you twisted David Eden's arm at Marine Crank real hard he does not hard chrome cranks. He welds them with tooled steel, remachines them, heat treats and nitrites. The crank looks and performs like new. Many big name teams use him. Bryant's recommends them to everyone.

David once told me he welded cranks for a customer who ground them back down to chrome them. Waste of money. And you won't see any cracks through the chrome when you mag them.

    Crank Repair

Actually, now that we are talking about Marine Crank I looked up my invoice and it says they Ion Plasma Nitrided the journals. What ever it was, it looks better than new.

    How Strong are the repairs?

Will the repairs hold up to 60 lbs of boost with a screw?

    cracked

A crank with no repairs only lasts so long...
I guess it might make sense if it's a cast block budget type deal.
We broke a fresh magged bryant in our BAE and might scrap the billet block. I suspect the crank was repaired on the snout.
The crank snout broke off clean along with 2 other breaks at a rod throw. Now that I have a cross section to look at, it's amazing how little steel there is holding the deal together.

Depends on the the stroke. The longer the stroke, the less material you have between the main and rod journals. Also depends on the main diameter.

    max crank diameter reduction

    hi there!
sorry to hijack the thread but this subject might give me an answer to what caused the death of my engine crank after only 2 passes down the track:
i had a hemi KB crank main journals machined to a 2.625 diameter to fit in a cast 383 block,in a blown and injected alcohol application
engine started right in my garage on 70 W oil.
then we went to the track with new oil (50w red line) and after the 2nd pass i found copper flakes in the filter.
disassembly showed delaminated main bearings(i have pics but do not know how to post them)and black marks on crank showing signs of overheating,as well as on one of the main caps.
crank went back to the machine shop and was found "dead" as many hair cracks were found on the main bearings.
i showed the crank to my engine builder and he said it must have come from the removal of the"hard part" of the journals.
another opinion says the clearance on the mains was wrong for a blown alky application.
    what do you think?
i want to use a used velasco crank as a replacement for the dead KB(out of an A/FUEL,and a call to velasco confirmed this crank is in good shape),but without a blower, only injected on alky,so before i take the crank to the machine shop and maybe make the same mistake, your opinion is welcomed.
thank you in advance for any input
