Congratulations to Mike Austin on his recent win at the LODRS Division 7 race in Fallon, NV!!! While his victory in Fallon may be embroiled in controversy (see Dean Murdoch's article at SpeedZoneMagazine.com which is full of more hearsay and conjecture than actual fact!) this was Mike's first victory since winning 3 straight back in 2005. Great job Mike!!!

I'd like to hear from Steve or Mike regarding their side of the story before congratulating them.

Well Chris I would be the first to congratulate Mike on his win cause he is a great guy, has paid his dues and deserve to win in TAD.
And I had utmost respect for Steve (before this) on what he has been through and what he has accomplished in the sport
While I know you were at the race, my story has information from three witnesses to the whole deal, and all three including Mike Rice basically say the same thing (as per the story).
Mike admits he made a mistake and is as close to Steve Federlin as anyone in drag racing. He too was disappointed it went down that way. He also said if he had to do it over again it would have went down differently.

Now if you had of said in your congrat's to Mike, and that there is an interesting story to read about the race at speedzone and draw your own conclusion, I would have left it alone, but you basically said that much of my story was inuendo or not factual, I have a problem with that.
If Mike or Steve would like to reach me for their side (rational, reasoning for way they did not wait) I would be the first one to listen to it and post it.
My guess is they will not contanct me (and both for different reasons which are not hard to figure out)

Would you have waited if you were in the position Federlin was in, or would you like your opponent to wait for you if you were in the situation that the Cowie's were in?

    hearsay...

    Dean,
Would I hope that a competitor would wait for me if necessary? Absolutely. Would I expect it? Never.

I stated that your article was 'hearsay'. 'Hearsay' is defined as information gathered by one person from another person concerning some event, condition, or thing of which the first person had no direct experience.

    Am I wrong?

I suppose your are right Chris. Unfortunately the word hearsay more often then not is used in the same vain as gossip or rumors and innuendo meaning I don't have the facts.
Mike Rice's comments should be enough to say a big mistake was made.

I don't really want this to drag on, I just maybe want Steve to maybe think about the situation a bit and hopefully realize that winning when there are two competitors on the track is much more rewarding, then to win at all costs. It is not the sportsman way to do it.
It could bite him in the butt down the road.

I know Mike Rice will deal with a similar situation differently.

The Cowie's have moved on and will move forward, they are too strong a team to let this affect them

This thread was started to congratulate Mike......and I second that. Congratulations Mike!!

I really respect all the parties. Ron told me in my office yesterday......they have moved on and he means it.

See you all at the races

    Mike Austin

I have known Mike Austin for a long time and I know he is one of the nicest guys at the track. I want to congratulate Mike also. I just wish for him that the win wasn't tainted because he doesn't deserve the controversy. He is a straight shooter and a truly decent guy. Dave Germain
