anybody have a really good way to clean and freshen up a helmet? i've got a nitro helmet with a skirt on it and it's needing a little 'freshening'. in the past i've used woolite on ballcaps as it's very gentle and can be used via hand washing and rinses easily. i was considering removing the visor and filters and anything removable and then give it a plunge into a bucket of water with a little woolite in it... followed by a few rinses.

    any suggestions?

A plunge into woolite is probably the safest bet, some helmet makers suggest baby shampoo as its got a neutral ph but I would suspect woolite does and probably cleans and rinses better.

I have never had a problem with anything I cleaned in woolite and its usually got most stuff clean.

If you want to kill the smell between cleanings you can use Helmet Fresh or simalar products in a spray bottle to freshen it up.

You better check you date on the Nitro helmut. Is it any good with impacts stuff being junk? I usually just spray a little "frebreez" in mine.

my understanding is the impact problems stem from counterfeit SFI tags. the helmet/shell aren't SFI they fall under snell guidelines. the only 'issue' on the helmet is the skirt which is required to meet SFI. but it's not an issue for me... as i have always worn a second simpson headsock underneath. i tend to go above and beyond on as much of my safety stuff as possible. i like to play by murphy's laws! somehow he always wins! lol

    ps... what's a helmut? haha... i keed keed! :D

Ha, What don't you wear a helmut? I bet you are one of those guys that prefer a helmet:rolleyes:
Ya, I was also told that the Nitro helmet was ok as long as you wear another sock under it. I would still like to sell mine. any takers?

X3 on the Woolite, and I also use the helmet fresh product after races.
