Crower makes some great stuff. I wouldn't fear it.

    Larry,
I bought two of them in 2005, one is still new in the box, never opened up. What stroke are you looking for?

    Stroke

Need 4.500 stroke, but the wierd thing is the 2.200 rod journals.

I talked to Crower, and (others) yesterday, and their the only ones that can get me a crank when I need it, everyone else is out 8-12 weeks.

What's this, a chrysler with chevy rod journals:eek: You must be crazy!

Sorry, couldn't help but to write some reply, us chevy guys don't get many oppurtunities like this to tease a little, hopefully you take it in good fun. I would like to hear the reasons for 2.200 size?

    A good taunting.

Because I can never build a (normal) motor.

Long stroke and std cam highth and mopar rods have clearance problems between rods and cam.

Besides that, I figured there are bbc's with more power than what I have and it must work for them, so I tryed it out.

"Offset grinding the crank from a 2.375" journal to a 2.200" can net you around .300" stroke" or do you mean .150" more stroke?

    My math says .150" more...

2.200 can and has been handling way more than 1500 HP for a long time. Just don't go to detonation land;)

Don't the prostock cars routinely run 1.880 journals and what are they making for power, dang near 1500? Of course they don't run near the stroke, so they have the advantage of having the rod journal and main journal closer to each other which helps strengthen in the area where cranks crack.

I the same problem last year with the wait with Crower so I called Bryant. They had mine in stock but it was a little backwards from yours, Hemi rod bearings and flange and BBC mains. Good luck.

    Hmmm, I'm still not convinced...
I beleive your moving the center of the journal .075" (.150" is the difference in diameter and you can only move the centerline the difference of the radius) than take it times 2 for .075 up and .075 down.

Anyway, I'll leave it alone now:)

Well, between my son being hospitalized and the flooding events of the last week, I guess I'm brain-dead right now, but you absolutely right, it is .150" total, I'll go back to my corner and wipe the egg off my face......

Guys do offset grind the crank to gain stroke, but usually guys grind the crankpin smaller on center so that the big end of the rod is a little bit smaller to clear the cam,oil pickup pipe, etc.

Yeah we did, but were a lot more fortunate than some, just lost carpet and drywall, have several friends in and around Nashville that have lost everything, been a very surreal week.....

Looks like you got the better end of that mess, floods are a bad deal.

Back in '93 we had 5' of water sitting in our machine shop, made a big mess of things.

Ran a Crower crank for last 4 years in blown bbc no problems. I did however, have to wait almost 2 months to get it. It was supposed to be less than a month. I got every excuse in the book why it was taking so long. Called them up every day after the first month until I got it. I never have had good customer service with them but their product is good. Take the good with the bad I guess:confused:
