I can tell you of 3 incidences which happened close to me in regards to remote filters that weren't good.
Two left junk remains of what started as great motors. The 3rd was caught just in time.
I have never run them, but see no reason to try them. I can understand if the frame makes it "impossible" to run the filter on the block, but yet I would try to change the seemingly impossible.

i have clearance and easy access to the block mounted filter just didtn't know if there was a reason for everyone running remount mounts over the block spin-on filter..i really didn't want more hoses to deal with and more places for oil leaks to happen running the remote filter but if there is a big benifit running remote then i'd do it.

The only thing I have ever had and used are System One filters right on the block. They have never failed me.

I've watched rods break because of System One filters that were remote mounted and the lines started to leak (mechanic error was the likely fault, but)

I watched an Oberg blow the o-ring out (in this case it was caught before the rods came out)

The third was a normal spin on filter on a remote pad. It was accidently plumbed backawards right when the motor was brand new, 3 runs on the dyno and there was little left of, well you get the picture.

The System One filter on the block...
There must be clearance from the bolt head to the filter. I'm talking the bolts that hold the filter adaptor on.

Just super glue the sealing ring to the filter on disposable canister style filters or high oil pressure will push the ring out.
Use a billet filter to block adapter on the Chevy's as that stock pot metal part will fail.

Either one of these will put oil under your tires putting some real excitement in your life.

Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. Brand new aluminum 427 side-oiler ford. Best of the best parts. I had primed the oil system BEFORE putting the remote filter on and showed good pressure, so when the electric gauge showed zero pressure at startup I didn't believe it. 60 seconds of run time took out all the bearings and grooved the crank. There aren't words to describe how mad I was at myself. Spin-ons don't flow backwards!

Although I've never been impressed with the stock cast filter adaptor, that's all I've ever used and without any issues.
If I understand you correctly you found a place (Zigs) to buy a billet one for $20, what is "Zigs"? I think the stock ones are more than that.

    What is "the Jegs one"?

We use a system one remote and have never had an issue with the lines being a problem.I find it interesting to hear others Say they have, will have to really watch that now.
But as for those cheap cast adapters, ours came with that and we had the fun of loosing a filter during the burnout as it snapped off, putting 11 quarts on the start line, not the track crews favorite person at that moment.
Changed to system ones billet adapter and all has been well since.

On the other side of the coin, I've run a System One remote oil filter system (BBC) for the last 10 years along with an external oil pump with not one issue.

I do preheat the oil (Redline Racing Synthetic) and prelub the engine on first fire up of the day.
