Rootes Blower oil

    Hi

    How much oil are you suppose put in the front case of a Littlefield HH 16-71 and what is the prefered oil these days?

    this is what i do

    with the blower standing on end with the snout off i fill it will oil till it starts to rise cover about a 1/4 of the thickness of the gear then i bolt the snout back on i have never had any gear problems its just the way i do it

    pull the 8 oclock allen out of the drive then an allen at the top and fill it till it comes out at the 8oclock hole..use the same oil as the motor..I change mine after each race...what a 1/2 qt of oil:)..dave

    I use amsoil synthetic 2 stroke oil, if you loose a seal the engine will eat the oil and not detonate like standard engine oil or gear oil.

    Many of the teams use Red Line Lightweight Shockproof gear oil. It's a lower drag with a medium in the solution that cushions the gears. It's more slippery than traditional gear oils and avoids power losses, gets up to temperature more quickly to protect the gears, and you don't have to run a lot of it in the case since it sticks to the parts....

    Redline and royal purple racing oil burn like gas, plus redline has o2 in it!

    Thanks for the replies

    We have been using the Redline light weight (blue) gear oil but we found it frothing up, I think we are putting too much in the front case

    20 oz of oil is right for littlefield hhelix . Having different oil than in motor I like because not only does it burn ,like mentioned, you can quickly identify your leak when it is external, and all over the front of engine;) I use lucus light gear oil. dont know if it burns though? I have more trouble external.
