Hey guy's , maybe you can clear this up for me, can alcohol go bad with age? I have guys who run sprint cars who say they run 5 year old fuel, and I know guys who only buy what they need to get by. I have some stored in a sealed plastic jug that is probably 3 years old. What do you guys think? I think I can hear this coming. Thanks

Sealed drum good for at least 2 yrs, maybe longer, never kept it longer than that. It has been discussed at great length already :D

short answer. plastic jugs "magically" suck in water. be very careful with this fuel. pour it in a glass jar, if its not crystal clear its got to much water. it will look milky, pour it out and by new. now dont ask what fuel is best. ;)

I have always used a Hydrometer to check it
if the specific gravity is right, use it

On that note...where can you find a chart that shows what the specific gravity should be at certain temps? Or do you all just make sure it's around .792ish? At what point do you say it has too much moisture in it?

    methanol

Methanol is anhydrous, meaning it readily accepts water.

I would only use old methanol if it was in a sealed, lined drum.

Anywhere other than the west coast, as a general rule, it's not a good practice to run old alcohol when performance counts. The more water you have in the fuel is essentially adding artificial humidity to your combustion process. In classes where you have to pass fuel check, chances are it won't.

    Methanol specific gravity:
    .801 @ 50F
    .796 @ 60F
    .792 @ 68F
    .791 @ 70F
    .786 @ 80F

    Here's a methanol/nitro chart you might find useful: http://fuelinjectionent.com/tech/SG_Chart.pdf

Will, I've sent you several messages (PM's and emails) inquiring about advertising on this site in the last couple of months - all unanswered. I assume you either aren't getting them or aren't interested in selling me ad space. If that's the case, the courtesy of a reply would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Spud
