quick question. What are you guys gapping your rings at per inch of bore. Hellfire top ring and cast second ring Blown Alchol BBC. Arias wants .008 for top and .0035 for second. Sound good or do you recommed something different?
    Thanks,
    Adam

Ring gap depends on the brand make and type rings. Meaning you can't use a tool steel ring gap on a Hellfire ring or like that. They have different expansion rates. According to SpeedPro for HellFire rings in a blown alcohol motor the first and second ring gap should both be the same at .006 times the bore diameter.

.036 on top (Hellfire) and .032 for the second (cast). 4.50 bore. Talked to the tech guy at Arias. This is what they have arived at based on heat on the different metals after the engine is warmed. Sounded like a logical explanation and the main thing, of course, is that the ends never touch.

Yup, the two big things. #1 is that the ends don't touch, and #2, that the second ring does not catch compression that the first ring loses. After you've got that down, they are just rings. Let them do their job.

I called Arias yesterday and for a 4.5 bore they said .037 and .025. Which is what my last motor is set at.
I spoke to a lady but forget her name.
Funny how we get different answers:rolleyes:

Call up Childs and Ackerly, who are absolute experts on rings, and they sell the Xtreme ring which is 100% the same as a Hellfire ring. They will probaly tell you something completely different. Childs and Ackerly agree with the SpeedPro recomended ring gap. When you call Arias and ask them for a ring gap do they give you the same gap for ever kind of ring? You should ask because a tool steel ring is very different from a Hellfire ring in expansion.
