I can find the dimplers for sheet metal, but I want to fasten a small 1/8" aluminum plate with them, and need a countersink I can use in my drill press so the head fits flush. They seem to have a real shallow angle, and my countersinks are too steep. Any ideas?

You most likely need a 120 degree CS for what you want to do. Then you will have one for H coil work also:)

    Go to the source here:

    http://www.southco.com/class/d4-dzus-standard-line-quarter-turn-fasteners-7564.html

Click on the product literature buton to get a PDF with all the info you want and more..
    Hope this helps good luck
    Luke

PS done forget about Full Bore if you want a Hex type head..

PPSS. ON aluminum with that shallow of an angle CS you would want to center and clamp the Pc down to keep from having the hole wander or egg shape. Also dont order a multi flute CS use a Ford type or weldon.Spin the CS slow. Not trying to be an A-s just do not know what your use to working on so please dont take this as a slight.

Dzus fasteners are 120 degrees, Mc Master has them, General purpose high speed steel 3 flute, 3/4" dia. body, 1/2" shank, P/N 3013A115. Hope this helps. Tom.

Thanks guys, that's exactly the info I needed. And HemiFiat, you don't ever have to worry about offending me with information. The more the better.

Why not just dimple the plate? You should be able to use the dimpler and it will make the plate stronger and leave a full contact area.

The dimpler would do 1/8" 6061 plate? I didn't think it would do that thick.

I guess I'll go ahead and chuck it up in the mill then. My drill press is a harbor freight cheapie that doesn't spin down very slow. Easier though.

I guess it depends on the dimpling tool you have. I have 2 different types, first is the type you hammer or use a press with, and, the second one is bolted together.

I've used both types on up to 3/16" 6061 T6 aluminum before. As long as the dimpling tool you have is steel and has a decent size aligning pin/bolt, my bolt-together uses a 3/8" bolt and the other uses a 7/16" alignment pin, you should be able to get a good form.

it will dimple it but you will need to put a little heat on the metal first and it should look great..Dave
