Gents, (havn't seen a lady here so appoligies if there is)

Thanks for you previous help re- clutch and lenco

I have spoke to lenco and they have advised not to launch in second gear as it is too tough on parts (can do it a few times to check if it is what i need)

so back to a three speed. I will make the approperate mods to run either in the car.

    now CLUTCH.....

what should i be looking to spend? loaded question...

tripple plate 10.5-11 inch BBC with ring gear fit in 8-5/8 can.
see RAM for $4000 through to Bonafante for $8000

this is for a sportsman style low 7sec 3000lb door car.

could some one please give some answers to the questions I should be asking? steel/ally-flywheel ally/TI-clutch what type material floaters-disc

    Will,
    thanks for the great site

OK I seamed to ramble on a bit yesterday.
I think what I was really asking was

What questions should I be asking about selecting a new clutch so that I can choose one that best suits my application.

I would probably use a crower pedal clutch, dual disk, 10.5/11 inch.

Okay, you have a heavier car so that generally translates to needing a bigger clutch, or you can run a smaller clutch and run higher gears. Tuning window would be bigger with a bigger clutch.

Questions they should ask you when recommending a clutch:

How many passes a year do you plan on putting on it?

How experienced are you or your crew chief with a clutch?

Are you converting from an automatic? (Usually you run short bars in the 4-link with a PG in a door car, need to run long bars with a clutch).

    How much Horsepower/Torque? Weight? Tire?

    What sort of rear gear?

Enough time or crew to servce between rounds?

    etc.

Aluminum will work fine for a long time, like the Ram (thats why it is so much cheaper), if you:
    1) Aren't turning your floaters funny colors every pass
    2) Along with #1, you aren't forced to slip the clutch more than 25% of the time. General Blown Alky in FC and Pro Mod will slip the clutch for about 2-2.5 seconds total in a 1/4 mile pass. Pro Stock, inculding Mountain Motor and Nitrous cars might be 1-1.5 seconds total.
    3) Aren't putting more than 50-60 passes/year

6 meetings a year plus the Xmas socal day 3 qualifyers 3 rounds = 50 passes a year max.

have used the single plate Hayes MK XII for 3-4 years (but was SCB on N2O)
so no real experiance (expect to get it wrong a few times the first year)

    Ladder bar car

    1800-2000Hp Blown BBC, 3000lb, 14x32tyre 115inch wheel base.

looking at changing to ??? 4.3-4.5???

limited crew would like to be able to just adjust (gap - weights) between rounds may do more between qualify and racing. but only "sevice" between meets or evey other meeting???????? What am I going to have to do?

so tripple ally from the likes of Ram?
