Magneto Angle Drive

    What's in a Angle Drive, is it a gear or u-joint or what?

    I have so wondered that same thing. There is one on the car i work on, but i've never seen inside of one

    I would think that it wouldn't be a U-joint as they are not "constant verlocity" though with only 10-15* it wouldn't be too bad. I would think that it is either bevel cut gears or maybe a CV joint (not likely). I thought about a flexable shaft but I don't think that I would trust that as a 44 would have a fair amout of "load" expecially at 10000 rpm (engine) mag would only be 5000.

    I stumbled across this from Good Vibrations website:

    "This unique RCD part angles the magneto 10° to clear cylinder heads, blower and manifold. Angle drive features a universal joint mounted in ball bearings and aluminum bronze gear."

    I geuss that answers it.

    If you had one apart you would find a C-v joint.
