I just wanted to let everyone know that the TAFC show during the Atlanta Div II race was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Of the 10 participants, the slowest one ran 6.04. The 2nd qualifying session was one side-by-side pass after another. Mark Billington and Mark Rogers ran each other for the last qualifying spot and Billington won 5.858 to 5.870 - just one example of the great effort that everyone put out. I think Mark Billington should start bracket racing his Avenger - just slap a 5.7 something on it and make sure you cut a good light.

Eliminations were great as well with every race except the finals a good close race.

Atlanta did give away a number of tickets so there were more people than normal in the stands for this race - hopefully they will want to come back to future races because of the quality of competition at this race.

I also need to mention that John Sullivan's new paint job is fantastic - looks as much like a street mustang as a FC possibly can.

This show made me think that there has got to be a market for some match racing - good burn outs and quality racing are the keys - you do not have to run 5.6-5.7's to make it work. I guess the southeast is just such a doorslammer region that a lot of tracks just do not book in FC's. There are some good 1/4 and 1/8 mile tracks in the area and I know Bill Naves' son has put together some shows in VA and NC so there has got to be a way to get some more dates for the regional type racer.

If any of you guys are racing within 3 hours of Atlanta, GA - drop me a line and I will see if I can make it.

Anyway - just wanted to let you guys know that I appreciate your effort.

    thanks

Thank you very much for your comments. I wish more fans would email their local tracks and show interest in AFC shows. When we moved to div 2, we did a dozen or so shows a year. Some tracks right now are not willing to gamble booking a show when the attendance is low and it is understandable..(and an open show with no participant commitment is the ultimate risk.) , but they will put on what ever show will fill the stands. It's up to the fans to let them know what they are willing to pay to see.We did one show that requested everything from AA/A to N/TF to compliment the AFC matchrace. We've matched up w/jets on occasion too! There are a lot of racers willing to do AFC quick 8 shows, but again, the tracks need to hear from YOU !!Lets all hope for an improved economy in 2010 and more racing for all. Thanks for the encouragement...these cars are a lot of work and it's nice to hear some folks appreciate watching them run. Atlanta was fun race to be a part of with all the great cars and teams. Hate it that Mark Rodgers and I raced again in Charlotte for the last couple qualifying slots as well...great guys.

You are exactly correct and it is a problem of long standing. We get little media exposure because racers are used to little media exposure at the local level and do not ask the papers and so-called sports shows to cover our sport. Track operators have given up, in some cases, all idea of promotion. Racers don't come together and support these shows so that the sport can rebuild a fan base outside of the heavily covered National events, etc.
We have all got to work together.
    Cheers,
    Ed
