    Fluid Film

I did a little research on the web so take it for what its worth but John Deere store sell a product called Fluid Film that protects magnesium as well as other metals although it does leave a film on the metal.

Its a penatrating lube/rust prevenative, about like WD-40 but I think its better. I found it through a Caterpiller mechanic.

Its hard to find in stores, but you can order direct ph# 615-833-4101

    Website is www.kanolabs.com

KROIL is an excellent penetrate! Its the best I have ever seen , It is all GE lets us uses on gas turbines and they claim that it will creep to the millionth of an inch BUT.....

IT IS NOT MUCH OF A RUST PREVENATIVE ! I made the mistake of scotchbrighting and the frame of my car and wiping it down with Kroil and when I came back in the garage a couple of days latter the whole frame was brown with surface rust

Still say if you don't mind a yellowish hue till it soaks in

then fluid film is the stuff to use.

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 20, 2005 -- Testing was done in an outside testing facility according to Salt Spray resistance - ASTM B117 standards where Fluid Film was tested against WD-40, CRC 3-36, Corrosion X and LPS-3. After 3 weeks exposure Fluid Film had a total surface corrosion of 1%, while the closest competitor contained 40% surface corrosion. Two of the other competitors had achieved 100% surface corrosion during this same period, proving once again the superior quality of Fluid Film.

Fluid Film has also been tested by the Department of the Navy who conducted testing on maintenance products for Navy vessels, and Fluid Film was found to provide superior performance. In fact, according to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Philadelphia, PA where material testing took place, the difference performance...profound...most telling result of all the testing accomplished for this project." The Naval Ammunition Depot in Pensacola Florida conducted tests to find safer products for corrosion preventatives, and Fluid Film was found to supply superior protection in salt water environments. Furthermore, the test results found "outstanding results" in direct exposure to the outside environment, and concluded with these findings: "The results of the tests preformed indicate a superiority in Fluid Film for long term corrosion protection. The properties of Fluid Film help to achieve a more environmentally safe work place."

Fluid Film was further tested by the U.S. Air Force in accordance with Mil-C-16173-E Grade 2, and was found to exceed all requirements. Delta Airlines wrote a process standard recommending Fluid Film as a general purpose maintenance lubricant, stating that Fluid Film differs from other general purpose maintenance lubricants in that the lubricating capability remains for extended periods of time and is not subject to evaporation. Studies conducted by Purdue University found Fluid Film to protect against stress corrosion cracking. When applied prior to exposure of the protected surface to an aggressive environment, Fluid Film was most effective. Boeings Space Systems Division wrote a specification for Fluid Films use on the Space Shuttle after Fluid Film passed the rigid testing standards for maintenance materials. Fluid Film was also tested by Boeings Engineering Materials and Process Laboratory and found to be twice as effective as commonly used CPCs for aluminum alloys. Sundstrand Aerospace wrote a specification for Fluid Films use as a preservative oil for magnesium, which is now used as a standard throughout the helicopter industry. The U.S. Coast Guard wrote an engineering specification for Fluid Film with the purpose being to improve the corrosion resistance of corrosion prone areas of aircraft.

With test results like these, its amazing that Fluid Film is not the number one rust/corrosion preventive and lubricant on the market today. Eureka Chemical Company has been around for over 50 years, quietly supplying the military and industrial markets with its superior quality product line. Fluid Film is now available to the consumer through a network of dealers and distributors. You can find a dealer locator on their web site at www.eurekafluidfilm.com.

Ditto on the Gibbs, I've been using it on bare chrome-moly for over a year and it has done the job quite well.

Also, you can find it on Ebay cheaper than most places.
